The "TopTenREVIEWS Gold Award" winner Business Platinum Card by American Express is the highly-coveted gold standard among business credit cards, particularly among businesses with heavy travel needs. With premiere travel benefits like its International Airline Program, which offers complimentary companion tickets to 1st and Business-class airfare, complimentary access to Airport Clubs worldwide and upgrades and exclusive amenities with hotels and resorts, the Business Platinum Card is designed to allow businesses to focus on existing and prospective clientele and leave the tiring odds and ends of making travel, hotel and entertaining reservations to the professionals.
The Business Platinum Card is not likely the ideal business credit card for new, emerging or unestablished businesses. Nor is it as valuable for businesses with little need for travel. Also, the Business Platinum Card requires excellent credit and a well-established business history. However, for businesses with heavy travel needs and the necessary credit and business history, there is no other card in regular circulation or offering that does more for its members and their businesses as the Business Platinum Card.
Strengths
Weaknesses
The Business Platinum Card is as much an all-access pass or club card as business credit card. With it, cardholders can upgrade to exclusive amenities at hotels and resorts and gain access to Airport Clubs. Also, generous perks including exclusive restaurants and entertainment events are available with the American Express Business Platinum Card.
Though the Business Platinum Card is intended for use as a charge card, meaning the balance is to be paid in full with each statement, it does offer a "Flexible Payments" program, allowing businesses to revolve travel-related expenses as well as any other selected purchases over $200. This feature is designed to allow Business Platinum cardholders the flexibility necessary to see businesses through the unexpected and remain focused on its end-goals.
American Express provides an abundance of features for its Business Platinum Card that go beyond rewards programs, expense reports and quarterly statements. With the "Platinum Office Program," which is the product of a partnership with The Regus Group, card members can gain complimentary access to more than 1000 Internet-enabled business lounges in more than 450 cities around the world, as well as two months no charge on any 12-month office lease. The Platinum Office Program also offers savings of up to 35% on everyday business needs, including answering services, web conferencing suites, and local phone and business addresses for virtually any location around the world.
In addition to the aforementioned travel, hotel and entertainment perks mentioned in the Card Features section, the Business Platinum Card offers a host of additional benefits, protections and services for its cardholders. In addition to its price protection, which most personal and business credit cards offer, the Business Platinum Card offer return protection, which, while similar to "charging back," allows purchases greater than $300 to be returned and designated for reimbursement on the account.
Members are also entitled to travel accident insurance, baggage insurance, car rental loss and damage insurance, as well as event ticket protection if, for covered reasons, the ticketholder is unable to attend.
The Business Platinum Card takes its security features a few steps beyond the still-ample Plum Card. With frequent account alerts that allow primary cardholders and those with authorized account management access to view and assess expenses and their source, an identity theft assistance service and, more importantly, guaranteed fraud protection, which includes all transactions on and offline, Business Platinum Card members have all the tools to prevent and solve fraud and identity theft, should it happen.
American Express offers expanded and personalized customer service for its Business Platinum Card members. With a telephone extension available only to Platinum Card members and assistance available virtually anywhere in the world, cardholders need not wade through "phone trees" to make account inquiries or manage the account itself. Also, like other American Express cards, Business Platinum Card accounts can be accessed, managed, monitored and set-up to receive notifications online and through PDA devices and mobile phones.
The Business Platinum Card from American Express is the best business credit card--for the right and qualifying business, that is. New enterprises, emerging businesses and others lacking the necessary credit aren't likely to become members, but, for an established business with extensive travel needs and the necessary credit, there is no other card as powerful, versatile or flexible as the Business Platinum Card.
